To Be Determined
Previous Rides in 2008
March - Movies at Elaine's
The
regularly
scheduled ride was changed to an afternoon at Elaine's house for
movies.
February
- Covered Bridges near Thurmont, MD
February 2008's ride date was pretty
bleak. Mostly old, but the roads were dry. Lisa Hecker and father,
Marty, with full electric gear joined ride leader Elsie Smith for a
scenic 75-mile backroad route across Brighton dam and then to two
covered bridges located near Thurmont, MD. We enjoyed a really nice
chat over lunch at the famous Cozy Restaurant in downtown Thurmont.
After getting to know each other better, and feeling pretty stuffed, we
headed south to ride through one more covered bridge closer to
Frederick, MD. That was the conclusion of the "planned" ride. From
there, all three headed along country roads back to our respective
homes.

Previous Rides in
2006
August- Solomon's Island,
MD
Gaby led
us on winding
back roads through
shady woods and open countryside surrounded by picturesque
farms complete with barns and silos, many acres of cornfields,
beautiful country estate homes, horses grazing in white-fenced fields,
wandering streams, and so much more. We enjoyed great conversation and
wonderful food in addition to, of course, one another's company at the
wonderfully air conditioned Catamaran Restaurant on Solomon's
Island
(which we learned IS actually a real island due to a small creek
which runs through the peninsula, making it technically an island).
Before heading home, we spent a few moments enjoying the beauty of the
Patuxent River from the boardwalk across the road from the restaurant.
It was a fun two-hour ride back-well, until we all got soaked by rain!

June - Budd's Creek, MD
Led by Mary Ann.
Previous Rides in 2005
November - Deale, MD
Gaby lead the ride to Deale
through PG County and Anne Arundel County. We had lunch at the Happy
Harbor Restaurant.
October - Harper's Ferry, WV

view!
September - Ride to Deale, MD
Elaine
lead a ride to the waterfront home of her father.
August -
Children's Inn at NIH
The ride was led by
Heather to visit terminally-ill children and their families. We were
invited to come with our motorcycles to visit with the kids and show
them our bikes.
June
-
Blugrass
The
June ride to Blue Grass, VA was terrific. Over 300 miles each day
and a wonderful group of motorcyclists to commiserate with at the
event. Local riders from Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware
enjoyed a delicious hot dog dinner while Trooper Stump and the Uphill
Ride played some foot-tapping bluegrass music. Harvey Reid later
performed in the barn, enticing us with his folk and blues ballads from
Maine to Appalachia. This was the first time I witnessed the
autoharp played live. He also played the electric guitar and
electric banjo. Dianne Garrett, our own WOW local member, joined me for
the campout and we truly had fun. Please join us next year!
May
- Go
West
We
traveled the scenic backroads up through the northern fringes of
Montgomery County and into Frederick County.
April -
Union Hotel Restaurant
Three of
us spent the day riding on many
wonderful roads through the scenic countryside of Baltimore County as
we traveled to and from the circa 1790 Union Hotel Restaurant in Port
Deposit, Maryland, a popular gathering place for motorcyclists. While
there we enjoyed a fabulous lunch and visiting with other bikers who
had also ridden there from far and wide.
If
you'd like to find out more about our interesting and historic
destination, please check out their website at:
www.portdeposit.com/Restaurants/UnionHotel.htm.
This
was such a fun ride that we're hoping to do it again later this riding
season!!
March -
Annapolis, MD
Our
destination was the City Dock in historic downtown Annapolis where an
exclusive parking area is provided for motorcycles.
Lunch
was at Buddy's Crabs and Ribs, a favorite downtown Annapolis restaurant
with a fun, friendly atmosphere and a view of the dock area and Main
Street from the upstairs dining room.
It was
a picturesque ride through Anne Arundel County.
January/February
- Cancelled
Previous Rides in 2004
December
- No Ride
November
- Anne Arrundel County Countryside
Gaby
led us on a ride through beautiful Anne Arundel County to see
picturesque farms complete with barns and silos, many acres of
cornfields, winding back roads through shady woods, beautiful country
estate homes, horses grazing in white-fenced fields, and miles and
miles of gorgeous fall countryside. All this is in addition to our view
of the peaceful water of the West River which could see from the
restaurant on the pier as we enjoyed our lunch and one another's
company.
October - Autumn Leaves
Ride
Donna
led a ride through western Montgomery County and Frederick County to
view the beautiful fall foliage.
September - Ride to Chantilly
The
ride was cancelled due to weather.
August -
River Ride
Gaby
led our August ride east to the West River on the beautiful back roads
of Prince George's and Anne Arundel Counties. Along with our lunch, we
enjoyed a beautiful view of the river since Thursday's Steak and Crab
House in Galesville (the same great restaurant Calista chose for our
June ride) is on a pier surrounded on three sides (of course...) by
water.
July
- Cunningham Falls Ride
At 78
feet, Cunningham Falls are the highest in MD. We rode out to the
Catoctin Mountains near Thurmont, MD to view the falls. Then we stopped
for lunch in Thurmont before returning to Silver Spring.
June -
Cruising to the Chesapeake
The
Cruising to the Chesapeake Ride on June 19 was a hit with the ten
members of the Capitol Cruisers who rode out to the Bay for lunch.
Mother Nature cooperated with great weather and Calista did a fabulous
job leading the ride.
May - Summer
Opener Ride
We rode
a 90 mile circuit around Montgomery County, stopping for lunch at
Basset's in Poolesville. Our county offers beautiful scenery and the
ride was wonderful! The weather was sunny, breezy and warm, which
enhanced the ride even more.
April - No Ride
We had
no ride because nobody volunteered to lead.
March - Luck O' the Irish
In
honor of St. Paddy's Day, eight of us took a scenic tour around
Frederick County, MD. Highlights included: crossing and riding
alongside the Monocacy River, breathtaking views atop Mar Lu Ridge and
winding country roads.
Unfortunately,
the ride came to an abrupt end when two of us had a collision at slow
speed. Fortunately, no bones were broken, but we do have some bumps,
bruises, and sprains. Ouch! There was also some damage to our bikes,
which had to be towed home. Ouch again!!
While
we make every attempt to ride as safely as possible in order to
minimize risk, accidents can occur. Both riders were wearing
appropriate protective clothing, including full-faced helmets, which we
were very grateful for. Our riding gear did it's job and kept us from
further injury. This experience was a good reminder to all of us, that
we need to always be alert and stay focused on our surroundings.
February
- Martha Washington Ride*
With
temperatures in the 50's and winds gusting at times to 15 miles per
hour, four of us went on the Martha Washington Ride on Saturday.
Monique, her husband Bill, Liza, and Donna rode through the winter
landscape of Montgomery County. One highlight was riding down Brighton
Dam Road and seeing the ice-encrusted Tridelphia Reservoir emerge
before us. Finally, we stopped for lunch at a popular biker restaurant,
Lu and Joe's in Mt. Airy. Who says you can't ride in February!
*While her husband George gets all the attention this time
of the year, few people know that the "Mother of Our County", Martha
was a dynamic, behind-the-scenes woman. As a matter of fact, some
historians believe Martha would have owned a motorcycle if they had
been invented at the time. So it was in honor of Martha that the
Capitol Cruisers rode in February.
January - Polar Bear Ride
We took
a lovely ride through the Northern Montgomery County area. The weather
was sunny and 32°. All participants wore heated clothing.
(Hey, we're not crazy!) We enjoyed lunch together at Tom &
Ray’s in Damascus before returning home.
