Capitol Cruisers Go to the Guppy Gala

For the second year in a row the Capitol Cruisers participated in the Friends of the National Zoo’s Guppy Gala. While the weather was a little on the cool and overcast side on May 13, the threat of rain did not materialize fortunately.

Heather, Carla, Annalee, and Donna rode in on their motorcycles and were able to set up under the same pavilion as last year. While originally competing for attention with the cotton candy vendor, soon the motorcycles became the focus of attention. Lots of kids went to bed that night was dreams of someday having their own motorcycle. Who knows, perhaps a future member of the Capitol Cruisers was recruited.

Cruising with Donna

This is the last Cruising with Donna column as I will soon be on my way to Athens, Georgia to begin teaching at the University of Georgia. I write this with a feeling of sadness over having to say goodbye to so many great women, but also with a feeling of honor and gratitude about being able to be part of such a wonderful chapter of Women On Wheels®.

I came to my first meeting of the Capitol Cruisers in June 2003 and haven’t missed one since. During that time I have seen our chapter grow beyond my wildest dreams. Not only do we have so many new members who are actively involved, we truly do carry out the mission of WOW. From our monthly meetings and rides to our community outreach work, the Capitol Cruisers truly does promote a positive image of women motorcyclists.

Of course, none of this would have happened without the support of so many of you. While I find saying goodbye hard to do, I am heartened that I leave the chapter in good hands. Becca will continue as Assistant Chapter Director. Heather will assist her in putting together the agenda and running the monthly meetings. Paula will help keep the newsletter going. Gaby will continue as Secretary, Elaine as Treasurer, and Monique as Webtender. Thank you all so much. Hope to see you at the 2006 Ride-In in Athens!
