Cruising with Donna

Donna B.
Chapter Director

New Year’s Day represents a closing of a book filled with the memories of many events and an opening of a new book filled with pages ready to be written on. In some ways the start of a new year represents the start of something new, but it also represents a building on the past.

If someone had told me one year ago that I would not only have a motorcycle (after a 30 year absence), but would also become the director of a local chapter of a national women’s motorcycle organization, I would have said they were crazy. Yet, as I write today, both of those events have come to pass.

With a mixture of excitement and gratitude I accept the opportunity to become the next Chapter Director of the Capitol Cruisers.

One of the benefits of taking on this position is the knowledge that I am part of a legacy of fabulous women who served before me, including Donna D., our outgoing director. I offer my thanks to Donna for her dedication to the Capitol Cruisers and to her reaching out to me when I was reintroduced to motorcycling last spring, especially helping me to ride to MAWMR. Thanks again Donna!

What does the future hold for Capitol Cruisers in 2004? Among the things I would like to work on are creating a greater sense of community not only within Capitol Cruisers, but with other WOW chapters and women motorcycle enthusiasts as a whole. Ways to do this include using the website, newsletter, and e-mails to keep members informed on current events and to provide information to potential members on what we are about.

I have been gratified to have already received support for some of my ideas. Thanks to Heather for encouraging me to consider being the Chapter Director, Gaby for volunteering to be Chapter Secretary, Monique for volunteering to work with our website, and Elaine for remaining as Chapter Treasurer.

However, I will still need your help. Come to our monthly meeting. Lead or go on a monthly ride. Write something for the newsletter. Let me know your ideas on how we can make Capitol Cruisers even better.
In the meantime, keep on riding and stay safe!
