February 2005WOW Rocks at International Motorcycle Show
On January 14-16 the 24th Annual Cycle World International Motorcycle Show was held at the DC Convention Center. Women on Wheels® was asked to be the ambassador for the DC show, which meant we would be in charge of several booths at the show. Pat Brumfield, the Maryland State Ambassador, had the task of organizing volunteers from all of the local chapters to run these booths, including Consumer Giveaways, Exit Surveys, and the WOW® booth. I was personally able to attend most of the day on Saturday and Sunday and had a great time.
Cruising with Donna As I was thinking about what to write in this month’s Cruising with Donna the idea of “stepping up” came to mind. In the case of the Capitol Cruisers, it has to do with the fabulous job that members have been doing in “stepping up” in ways that make our chapter even better. A prime example is Becca, our new Assistant Chapter Director. She has stepped up by taking over coordinating fundraising and community outreach responsibilities. Other examples are members like Gaby, Mary Ann, Monique, and Elaine, who have stepped up by offering to help with our new Learn to Lead program. Members like Monique and Paula stepped up by volunteering to lead an overnight ride to Elaine and Bob’s beach house. I have to tell you that being Chapter Director is very gratifying and I am very excited about what the future holds for the Capitol Cruisers. While the weather may be cold now, the seeds have been planted for lots of new activities from adding a second monthly ride (the first Sunday of the month) to having more special overnight rides. Interesting fundraising and community outreach ideas are being explored. This is truly a great time to be a member of the Capitol Cruisers. Thanks to all for “stepping up”.
